"View" mode when clicking on an entry

I get a tad bothered that the 'Edit Item' popup is displayed when you click to view an entry. It really should be a read-only popup first, instead of immediately showing an editable form. I can't be the only one bothered by this, right? Or maybe I'm being a dummy and missed a configurable setting somewhere?
