Feature idea/request: native backup functionality for the PostgreSQL database

Source: supabase/supabase#24544 · opened by @danielrosehill
As a lot of Supabase users are experimenting with early stage applications (and tending to 'move fast and break things'), it would be a huge value-add (in my opinion) if there were a native functionality to run a quick backup (ie, pgdump) against the backing PostgreSQL database and any other components storing data on the backend (like the storage buckets).

Ideally one could simply download the database backup. But it's not hard to think of some additions on this that could also be part of Supabase's SaaS offering (like Supabase-hosted backups available for both SaaS users and self-hosters. Pesonally, I would have been happy to pay a premium over the PostgreSQL backup solution I ended up using simply to avoid the complication of having to use another provider, provide authentication to the database, etc).
