[Feature Request] document validation hook(s)

Description

In my data model for documents I have some relations between i.e. storage_path and doccument_type as well as with some custom fields.
I want to ask for a function that can be used to be sure all relations are correct.
May be a hook that is called when the "store" button is pressed and the document is going to be saved can be called to validate those individual dependencies and give an ok, an hint or an error message to the ui user or api caller.
