[Feature Request] Date created should be optional and approximate
Source: paperless-ngx/paperless-ngx#14025 · opened by @flemmingss
Description
This is not the first time this issue has been posted, like in [#11908](
I keep this short: In many cases we all have document with no date, and no memory/approximate memory of the date.
Setting upload date or a "random" date is very very misleading, as me and many others try to make sure all metadata is in fact to trust and not "most likely".
proposes two changes:
1. The "Date created" field should be optional
2. It should be possible to set a less specific date (instead of "day" 2026-07-09, options like "date" 2026-07 or "year" 2026 should be possible).
Why? Because "I remember this is from May 2026, but not what date".
