Ability to lock/unlock order and nesting in left pane

We have a recurring problem where users inadvertently move documents in the left pane, accidentally reordering them and sometimes accidentally nesting them within other documents. Many times, it happens so quickly that the user does not even notice that it happened (to the point where some users swear they didn't do it).

We used to have the same problem with the content of documents, but we enabled the feature that forces the user to click the "Edit" button before edits are allowed. That has made the issue disappear.

We'd like to see something similar in the left pane, to ensure document reorders and nestings are intentional and deliberate. It could be an opt-in feature, like the "click the Edit button to edit the document" option currently is. That way, organizations that like the status quo can stick with it, while others (like mine) can enable a feature to lock the order. Or maybe "unlocked" could just be the default.
