Request user to opt in or out of usage statistics
Source: Kong/insomnia#6233 · opened by @gitd8b
When first installing the app (tested on both Linux and Mac), it just starts the application without any option to opt out of usage statistics. Analyzing Wireshark logs, I can see statistics were sent out immediately without my permission. I have to manually go into preferences and disable them, leaving the only way to avoid usage statistics from being sent out initially is to disconnect from the Internet before starting the application.
For the privacy of the users, I'd recommend making an initial request on the application to ask if it's okay to collect this data making it an opt-in option, not opt-out.
Optionally, I'd also recommend that any first and/or second time "new" statistics coming in to be purged since these were linked to devices that had to manually opt-out when starting the application for the first time so that their privacy could be acknowledged (assuming the data isn't already purged when someone opts out)
