The feature

On September 4, 2026, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution encouraging the use of the Equal Earth projection instead of the traditional Mercator projection, which significantly distorts the relative sizes of countries and continents.

Since Immich's map is primarily used to visualize photo locations rather than for navigation, adopting Equal Earth would provide a more geographically accurate world view while aligning with the UN's recommendation.
