[Feature] Retry hardware transcoding on FFmpeg dimensions failure
Source: immich-app/immich#8297 · opened by @unknown
The feature First and foremost, I would like to thank all the people developing this app. I would like to start a discussion on the following topic: could it be possible to add additional logic to "rotate" the video before encoding, if it failed, and try again? Now, this may sound weird, but let me explain. I'm using a thin client with an AMD Jaguar architecture processor. I've set up GPU passthrough in order to transcode videos more efficiently. However, checking out the logs showed the following problem: the GPU core (Radeon HD8330E) is apparently unable to encode vertical (720x1080) videos, as evident by the following line: The height doesn't fit, even though it would if the video was rotated 90 degrees. I've switched to transcoding to 480p for now, which works fine as it fits into the constraints either way, but what I'm curious about: if such an error message is detected in the output, could it be attempted to rotate the video the other…
