The feature

Allow playback of original video files in the web browser.

Currently, only transcoded versions can be played. That's useful for showing someone a video on your phone, but when you're on a PC monitor or TV in LAN, it's not great to be limited to your compressed version.

Of course this should be optional, as a client option.

If it's not too complicated, the most elegant way would be to stream the compressed video, then preload the full-quality version in the background, and swap to that version once it has successfully buffered a second or two, which would also verify that the file is compatible. In the case of an incompatible source format, it would simply keep playing the transcoded version.
