Shelly Plus Smoke doesn't have a last seen entity (nor updates last_reported)

The problem
Shelly Plus Smoke are battery powered smoke detectors and (as long as there is no alert) only wake up and connect to the WiFi once a day. Currently the Shelly integration doesn't offer an entity for when such a wake up message has been received, giving no indication on whether the device is still alive. Neither are the last updated attributes of the existing entities updated, giving users no workaround to get liveliness information.
